Apostolos Andreas (Saint Andrew the Apostle) is one of the most beloved saints of the Orthodox Christian Church and is known as the First-Called Apostle (Protoklitos), because he was the first of Christ’s Apostles to be called to follow Him ✨

Saint Andrew was the brother of Saint Peter and was originally a disciple of Saint John the Baptist. When he encountered Jesus Christ, he immediately recognised Him as the Messiah and followed Him. Saint Andrew later brought his brother Peter to Christ, playing an important role in the beginning of the Apostolic ministry.

After the Resurrection and Ascension of Christ, Saint Andrew travelled widely preaching the Gospel and bringing the message of Christ to many nations. He is especially honoured in Cyprus and throughout the Greek Orthodox world, with a strong tradition of devotion to him 🙏🏻

Saint Andrew was martyred for his faith by crucifixion on an X-shaped cross, which has become his distinctive symbol. Despite persecution, he remained steadfast in his love for Christ until his final moments.
